Working at The Oredigger Newspaper carries with it a tremendous number of benefits. First and foremost, student can refine their writing skills with respect to a number of styles. Additionally, Oredigger staff members are trained how to edit pieces for leads, structure, flow, and grammar. For students who wish to move into leadership positions in the organization, the Editorial Board will work with them on how to motivate a group and stimulate a buy-in. Lastly, students interested in graphical layout and design have the opportunity to work with the latest, industry-leading software. All Oredigger publications are designed using Adobe Creative Suite 3, with particular attention to InDesign and Photoshop.

Currently, The Oredigger is recruiting for the following positions:

Staff Writer. Responsible for researching, interviewing, and writing assigned news, features, lifestyle, sports, and humor pieces each week, staff writers have the most flexibility of any position in The Oredigger. Organizational structure allows for staff writers to attend meetings and select assignments based on their availability. Writers are paid $1.50 per column inch (approximately 2 square inches) for stories printed. Additionally, staff writers are encouraged to take pictures for stories and will be paid accordingly. Open positions: 7.

Photographer. Responsible for taking photos of people, events, and locations surrounding relevant story assignments, photographers also enjoy a strong degree of versatility. As with staff writers, photographers enjoy the freedom to refrain from taking photo assignments on weeks with high class and exam load. Photographers are paid $10 per printed photograph. Open positions: 1.

Assistant Business Manager for Distribution Systems. Shall be, primarily, responsible for ensuring that papers are delivered each week. Additionally, shall work to manage and expand the physical and electronic distribution networks of the newspaper, striving to maintain 30% physical distribution outside of the CSM campus and simultaneously minimize the number of excess papers distributed to each location. Shall work with the Editor-in-Chief to expand electronic distribution partnerships and with the Design Editor to synchronize promotional material. The Assistant Business Manager for Distribution Systems shall receive $75 for each issue printed.

• On Thursday April 24, 2008, ASCSM heard formal arguments in the contested MAC Presidential election; the ASCSM Senate voted and confirmed Jessica Bowser as the next MAC President.

• Gov. Ritter and Sen. Salazar announced a new solar energy group at the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory that will focus on solar power; CSM, NREL, CSU and CU-Boulder will work collectively on the project.

• The CSM Emergency Alert System (MEA) recently conducted its first test, sending 1,567 voice messages and 1,151 text messages to subscribers in the CSM community.
